Samantha Taylor is nine years old and lives in 'Gillbrough', North Yorkshire, in England. She has some questions:
When is an Exmoor Pony not an Exmoor Pony? What will her twelve-year-old sister, Emily, do now she’s grown too tall for her pony? Can she deal with all the taunts and lies from Mia whose pony is on the same Yard? Gemma, Samantha’s best friend, would love her own pony, but how can her Mum ever afford one? Samantha finds the answers - if she can only get the adults to agree. But, unfortunately, one of her plans leaves Emily just three weeks to prove she can cope with Sunny, the lively Almost Exmoor. Then there’s another question - can the family prove Sunny is a proper Exmoor pony? But if they do will her owner insist on taking her back? It’s a tough time for Emily! It gets even tougher when her friend's pony, Magpie, falls sick, poisoned - but how? Samantha tells the story and she does her best to lighten the mood with her fantasies about Sunny and other animals on the Livery Yard where the ponies live. Horse and Hound, UK's leading Equine magazine says:
"The ‘Almost’ Exmoor — a funny, captivating story for any child" "...Sammy’s imaginings made me laugh several times, and at one very sad point in the book I nearly cried... ...all children who are interested in ponies would love it, however since Sammy is not horse-obsessed herself, I think other children would also enjoy it..."
